Group Therapy
Working in groups adds new dimensions to self exploration and dealing with life issues. Groups provide more breadth of experience than working with a single therapist, and being with others who are also working on themselves is often experienced as a support in itself. Being with a peer group as well as a therapist often has the effect of ‘normalising’ the experience of a person who is going through difficult issues in their lives, especially when others in the group have had similar experiences. It is also true that hearing others’ diverse experiences can have the effect of validating one’s own different and individual experience. As well as providing rich resources, sharing the growth journey with others often makes it seem easier. Many clients in individual therapy will progress to groups as a way of maintaining and reinforcing the experience of personal learning and growth over time.
Mike’s groups usually run fortnightly for two and a half hours.
